Democracy School in Nevada City this March
Democracy Schools trace the history of corporate privilege and influence in the United States, and offer strategies and solutions for taking back our right to democratic local self-governance. A Democracy School in Nevada City has been scheduled for March 26-28, at a cost of $250.00/person. Click Here for more information on the national Democracy School model.
The Nevada City school will be taught by Shannon Biggs and Ben Price, and is intended to educate and create a local force of citizens willing to assert local self-governance as a fundamental right. A few scholarships have been pledged for this school, specifically for young folks who can commit to doing on-the-ground organizing in exchange for attendance in the school.
If you had the good fortune to catch any films at the Wild and Scenic Film Festival a couple weeks ago, it is clear that rights to local control over water and food issues are of more importance than ever as we strive to create sustainable communities. Even if you weren't at the film festival, the recent ruling in the Citizens United case by the U.S. Supreme Court, which continues the expansion of corporate influence into our political and social spheres, certainly demonstrates how important it is that we work to assert and reclaim our rights to local self-governance.
